For the last several years, I’ve made it my mission to travel to some of the most remote corners of the world to capture rare landscapes and cultures that have withstood the test of time. This fall, after reading a series of articles over the last year that underline the struggles of America’s National Parks, I’ve decided to turn my lens towards home.
2016 marks the 100 year anniversary of our National Park System, and yet the park’s annual budget—allotted by Congress—is only a quarter of what they actually need to maintain the protected landscapes that they oversee across the country. Unfortunately, it seems that more budget cuts are on the way.
Starting this week, I will be driving a Airstream cross-country for a total of two-months, stopping first in Washington State to capture some truly incredible Pacific Coast landscapes. I’ll then head down California’s Highway 1 en route Yosemite National Park and Death Valley. My hope is that the photos I come back with, which I will release in the Spring of 2016, will help to create a renewed appreciation and deeper dialogue about the challenges that our park system faces ahead.
