Sable Island, the narrow, crescent-shaped ribbon of sand off the coast of Nova Scotia, is home to one of the last herds of completely-wild horses. Roaming freely over the land’s 26 rugged miles, these horses are uniquely Sable’s own.

As symbols of strength, fortitude, and resilience, there are very few animals whose existence rivals the untamed yet elegant beauty of the legendary horses of Sable Island. Drew’s images from the island, like “Purity,” evoke a childhood sense of wonder at the majesty and glory of a place man has failed to conquer, despite multiple attempts, that remains a stronghold of life for a breed of horses unlike any other on Earth.

Having spent more than 70 days on the island, and as one of the few artists granted extended overnight access to stay there, Drew has created the most comprehensive look at this unique microcosm.
